Kajiado Senator Peter Mositet has quit the Jubilee Party after losing primaries to newcomer Philip Mpayie.
Mositet says the polls were not free and fair.
“Following the party nominations held in Kajiado County that were neither free nor fair and were characterised by results manipulation, I hereby notify you of my resignation as a member of the Jubilee Party,” reads in part a letter by the Senator to Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju.
Mositet got 52,022 votes against Mpaayei’s 62,077.
At some point, Senator Mositet stormed the tallying centre, accusing the returning officer Jeremiah Ole Ncharo of rigging him out in favour of Mpayeei.
He engaged the returning officer in a heated argument asking to be showed signed forms for the nomination.
Ncharo had to call security who threw the legislator out of the hall.
Later, he said he would consult his supporters for his next move.
Police officers cordoned off the Hall, as tension rose and fears of violence ran high.
