Kajulu residents in Kisumu East Constituency have urged police to curb the rampant cattle rustling in the area.
Speaking during an emergency meeting held at Kajulu Primary School grounds on Wednesday, the residents petitioned Governor Jack Ranguma to intervene by holding talks with his Nandi counterpart on how to end the vice.
Shabar Odhiambo Kajulu residents’ representative asked police to put an end to the ongoing cattle rustling between the residents and the neighbouring Nandi County community.
“We cannot continue fighting and losing our cattle to rustlers from neighbouring communities yet we have police officers. Police should ensure that calm has returned in this area and the vice should stop before things go out of hand,” said Odhiambo.
A police report released last year by the then Kisumu East Officer Commanding Police Division Musa Kongoli, the area has suffered loss due to rampant cattle rustling.
According to police sources, cattle rustlers from the neighbouring Nandi County normally cross over engaging the Kajulu residents in fights.
