Kakamega Forest marathon defending champion, Alfa Malinga is among 800 athletes who have registered for the 3rd edition of the event that was launched on Wednesday at Athletics Kenya Federation offices.

The marathon will be held this Saturday in Kakamega County.

Malinga who won the 42km race in the previous edition will be seeking to defend his title as over 800 athletes have already registered.

The race will begin at Sorio Grounds and end at Ireo with the winner for both men and women pocketing half a million shillings.

The runners-up will take home 250,000 shillings with the 2nd runners up getting 120,000 shillings.

Other races that will be held include 21km race, 15km, 70km and 30 km Bicycle races and a Bullfighting contest.

Winners in the 21km race will receive a cash award of 150,000 shillings with the runners-up getting 75,000 shillings.

Winners in the 70km and 30km bicycle races will pocket 60,000 shillings and 30,000 shillings, respectively.
