Kakamega Homeboyz have landed sponsorship from the Kakamega County government.

The county government on Wednesday announced that they would be sponsoring the Kenyan Premier League side during their 2018 season.

Since inception, the Kakamega-based side has lacked a sponsor with chairman Cleophas Shimanyula being the sole source of income.

"I am very happy right now and I want to thank the County Government for deciding to help Homeboyz which is the only KPL team from Kakamega. Running a club without a sponsor is not easy, we've struggled in the past but now with help from the government things will be a little bit better on our side. We will be able to pay our players and technical bench better and we will also be in a position to get good players in order to preform even better in the league," said a delighted Shimanyula as reported by Futaa.

"We want to take this club to another level. We are in talks with a betting firm over a sponsorship deal. Things look good so far and by the end of the year we could have another sponsor on board," he added.

Under coach Mike Mururi, the Kakamega side finished 5th in the Kenyan Premier League in 2017.
