A man in Malaha village of Kakamega county committed suicide following a disagreement with his wife over money they had collected from selling chicken.
25-year-old Simon Lumonje had sold part of their poultry stock on agreement that he was going to renovate their house but when his wife raised questions after the promised was not fulfilled, there ensued a quarrel.
During the quarrel, the local bodaboda mechanic threatened to commit suicide and despite being stopped by villagers, he ended up committing the act immediately his wife left for the farm.
Confirming the incident, Shianda location Chief Alfred Muhatia advised young couples to seek advice from their leaders and elders whenever confronted with life marriage challenges.
“Misunderstandings in homes will always be there. Residents should be very careful on how they handle them. We should always look for better solutions by engaging in dialogue instead of committing suicide,” Muhatia said.
