Kakamega residents were on Friday waiting for the grand homecoming of SportPesa jackpot winner Samuel Abisai.
The 28-year-old this week made history after winning Sh221,331,602 to become the first ever winner of the SportsPesa Mega Jackpot.
66-year-old Abisai Mabunda, his father, could not express himself fully at the Kakamega county market following his son’s achievement.
Mabunda has been at the market for the last 46 years selling ropes to tether goats, sheep and cows.
He resides in little-known Sichirai village and hails from Ebukanga Munjiti in Emuhaya.
Abisai’s mother Margaret Mabunda was also busy sprucing up their home in Sichirai in preparation for the homecoming son.
“I’m still waiting for communication from him on the preparations for his homecoming but we are all set to accord him a very warm welcome,” Mzee Mabunda said.
He further said he hoped his son would get advice from financial experts on how to invest his huge fortune to raise the family.
The younger Abisai is expected to make his grand homecoming today Saturday in an elaborate ceremony to be held at Kakamega's Bukhungu Stadium.
“People of Kakamega must feel the effect of his win. He is talking of building a sports academy,” SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri said.
Among those expected at the event include Elimah Khanaitsa, winner of Sh22 million in January of last year.
