Sofapaka President Elly Kalekwa has said the relegation of the team by Football Kenya Federation was done maliciously.
Kalekwa feels that the club’s relegation was personally motivated against him.
Kalekwa says that he was the only club owner that was asked to produce bank statements by the federation.
“If it’s a bank statement to prove that I can comfortably run the club in 2017, I have already submitted one which clearly indicates that I have Sh186 million (1.86m dollars) in my account, yet the team’s budget for the entire season that I submitted is only Sh80 million,” Kalekwa said.
“Salaries may delay and that is normal even in the civil service, but it doesn’t mean that someone would go without his pay,” he said.
Sofapaka and Muhoroni were relegated in December for failing to meet mandatory Criteria A of the Club licensing regulations.
It is expected that the Sports Tribunal Court to make a ruling over the relegation of the two teams.
