Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile has defended himself concerning his remarks that President Uhuru values Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka more than the Kamba people.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto have a notion that Kalonzo controls 1 million Kamba votes and this must stop," Kalembe told the Star on Monday.
"Jubilee does not respect us Kambas who joined the new party. They actually don't value our capacity," added Kalembe who folded his party, Tip, to join Jubilee.
But speaking during a phone interview on Radio Maisha on Tuesday, Kalembe said he was misquoted.
According to Kalembe, Uhuru was interested in Kalonzo so as to split the votes for the opposition.
"I was misquoted on the whole issue concerning Kalonzo Musyoka. What I meant was that President Uhuru Kenyatta is interested in Kalonzo to ensure the votes of the opposition are divided as we head to the August elections," said Kalembe.
However, the Mavoko parliamentary aspirant said that it would not be a surprise if Kalonzo ditched the opposition before the August elections.
Kalembe believes that a repeat of the 2007 scenario where Kalonzo opted to run for the presidency on his own may not be a surprise come August.
He believes that Kalonzo running on his own will divide the opposition votes, and thus give Uhuru's Jubilee Party an upper hand.
"However, I will not be surprised if Kalonzo opts to run for the presidency on his own. This will be a repeat of the 2007 where Kalonzo vied for the presidency after failing to be the flagbearer of the opposition," added Kalembe.
However, Kalonzo, who is on a tour of Gusii region on Tuesday said he is in NASA to stay, and accused Jubilee of peddling rumours that he will bolt out of the new found opposition alliance.
