A group of Kalenjin Elders from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties have come to the defense of Baringo Senator Gideon Moi after he was accused of orchestrating the embarrassments Deputy President William Ruto faced on his visit to Kabarak last week.

Led by Daniel Chebwai, Yusuf Keitany, and Philemon Lel, the elders said Senator Moi had nothing to do with the botched visit.

Addressing the press in an Eldoret hotel on Tuesday, the elders said those who planned the DP’s visit to the retired President Daniel Moi should be one to be blamed.

They said anybody was free to visit the retired President but insisted that the set down guidelines on securing an appointment must be followed to the later.

“Nobody has blocked anyone from visiting Mzee Moi only that the set guidelines must be followed and those who planned the DP’s visit should accept the fact that they did not follow the required protocol instead of blaming Senator Moi,” noted Keitany from Elgeyo Marakwet county.

“As Kalenjin elders in this region, we are not happy with those spreading the propaganda that Senator Moi was running the show at Mzee Moi’s Kabarak home. The retired president has his people who handle all the visitors and on this incidence, the blame should be on those who claimed to have secured the DP’s appointment,” he added.

The elders further accused politicians allied to the Deputy President for taking advantage of the botched visit to unfairly target Senator Moi.

“Any leader can visit Mzee Moi and those blaming misfortunes that DP Ruto encountered are out to engage in pure theatrics which won’t help anyone,” noted Philemon Lel from Ziwa, Uasin Gishu county.
