Kalimoni MCA Joel Waichere has donated multiple water pipes to the residents of his ward to reduce water shortage in the area, which the residents have been complaining about.
The water pipes are meant to direct water from Juja town to the interior villages in the ward where they have suffered for a long period which has resulted to poverty and hunger.
According to the county lawmaker, water is essential to any human being and without it, the economy of the country becomes retarded and poverty steps in.
Speaking in his ward on Thursday, the MCA expressed concerns over children dropping out of school due to poverty and early marriages to girls who are being married off by their parents in order to uplift their living standards.
“I want to eradicate early marriages and school dropouts in the region due to poverty as a result of lack of water to sustain our farm produce,” he said.
The lawmaker further added that plans are ongoing to ensure water is directed to every homestead in the area to ensure availability of food and reduce crime, which he blamed on poverty in families.
“By the end of March 2015, water will be at every homestead in this ward thus to reduce crime which is as a result of poverty as well,” Waichere added.
The water pipes have been directed from Juja town to Mwereri primary school via Juja farm where it will be accessible for every resident free of charge.
