Coast will not be used as a political ladder again by leaders from outside. Kaloleni Member of Parliament Paul Katana has said that Coast region may oppose the referendum if its about creating positions gains of certain individuals to get into power.
The legislator said nobody will use Coast to achieve his political objective again and revealed that in 2022 leaders will decide where they shall go so as to be part of the government that will be formed.
Addressing members of the Public in Mombasa during familiarization meeting of women and youths on National Government Constituency Development Funds (NGCDF) and National Government affirmative action Funds (NGAAF) on Monday, he said this time around they shall not accept political games but speak the truth.
“We need to plan earlier so that they are not sidelined and be in government, we should not fall in already formed government," he said.
Katana said coast has suffered for many years because of lack of unity among leaders in the region.
“Leaders must accept there is a problem we sit together and forge the way forward, the problem will not be solved by a person from upcountry,’’ he said.
The MP is not the first one from the region to openly declare that in 2022 they must be part of the government.
Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa and his Magarini Counterpart Michael Kingi have been vocal on the issue saying its time Coast is part of the government which shall be formed.
Jumwa already openly declared she would support Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid.
