Cord Co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has urged Parliament and the Senate to endorse the report by the Joint Select Committee (JSC) on Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Kalonzo says that the debate should be fastened to ensure that the process of selecting appointing new IEBC commissioners does not delay.

The former VP said that new IEBC commissioners need to be in office to facilitate preparations for next year’s general elections.

“Parliament should expedite on the report by select committee so that we can have the new commissioners in office as proposed by the committee,” he said on the phone on Monday.

Kalonzo at the same time lauded the select committee members for doing their work within the time frame.

He also lauded the committee for working together despite their different political differences.

The select committee handed its report to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Cord leader Raila Odinga last week.

The report proposes a raft of measures that provides for reforms in the electoral body.

The report proposes that the current IEBC commissioners should vacate office by the end of next month.

Parliament is expected to debate on the report to kick start the process of picking new commissioners IEBC commissioners ahead of the 2017 elections.
