Wiper leader and former vice president Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has congratulated David Maraga following his appointment as the new Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya.
Speaking at the Mashujaa Day celebrations on Thursday, Kalonzo lauded his former classmate for sailing through the vetting process to become the next chief Justice.
“I would like to congratulate my classmate, Justice Maraga for being sworn in as Kenya's Chief Justice,” said Kalonzo. Maraga succeeded retired Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, who retired this year.
The staunch Seventh Day Adventist was sworn at State House in a ceremony presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The 66-year-old said that his walk to the position of Chief Justice has been marred with various challenges. Upon his appointment, Maraga assured the nation to reduce backlog as well as become more accountable during his term in office.
President Uhuru Kenyatta urged him to do a better job than his predeccesor. The wiper also proposed that Mashujaa Day to be renamed Constitutional day "I would propose we consolidate Mashujaa day with Constitutional day to celebrate everyone who has made an impact on this great country,” he said.
Kalonzo joins other Kenyan leaders who have been appreciating other people’s success in different fields of life.
