Cord Principal Kalonzo Musyoka has criticized the new guidelines on campaign funding by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Wiper Democratic Movement leader has argued that the spending ceiling proposed by the election governing body is likely to negate the dream of equality and fairness.

Speaking at Kikoko Village in Kaiti Constituency, during the burial of Ms Cecilia Musaki, the mother of Wiper NEC member Hellen Ndeti, Kalonzo said that the body should not continue formulating policies yet the commissioners have agreed to leave office soon.

“It is improper, almost disheartening, that the commissioners who have accepted to go home are formulating policies that are anti-Kenyan dream,” said the former vice president.

According to Kalonzo, the new rules are going to create disunity in the entire nation hence they should not be adopted. “How can you say you want to be President of the Republic of Kenya if you are allowed to spend Sh5.2 billion? What are you telling the country?” Kalonzo questioned.

Last week the electoral governing body capped presidential aspirants’ campaign spending at Sh5.2 billion, a move that has sparked mixed reactions from different leaders from all over the nation.

IEBC commissioners also agreed that senators, governors and woman representative should spend Sh33 million while MP and MCA’S spend Sh10 million during campaigns. The commissioners said that it is their mandate to regulate politicians spending during campaigns.
