Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo has been given 24 hours to nominate a candidate to battle it with Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua in the forthcoming general polls, reports Daily Nation.
This comes after Political Parties Tribunal has nullified the results of the party’s nominations after Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala went to court to the complainant about election malpractices.
The former Vice Presidents party is expected to give a direct ticket to its favorite candidate before the August polls.
The nomination of Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti has caused a storm in Ukambani. Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama is among the leaders who expressed their disappointment after Ndeti was given a ticket to contest for the seat.
According to Muthama, Kalonzo and other top officials marked ballot papers before the exercise thus awarding Ndeti victory. On her part, Ndeti has maintained that she will beat Kiala even if the party repeated the nominations.
The party boss has defended himself from the nominations accusations, saying that he believes in transparency.
A section of leaders has lamented that the nominations malpractices are likely to cost the party in the August general polls. Kalonzo is rooting to become the next Deputy President if NASA beats Jubilee in the elections.
