National Super Alliance (Nasa) deputy president candidate, Kalonzo Musyoka, has said that ODM must give up the chase for Bungoma Senate seat.
Nasa co-principal and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula will be seeking to defend his seat in the August 8 polls. He was on Monday cleared by the IEBC to vie.
ODM’s Bonny Nyongesa is also in the race to unseat Wetangula.
Speaking when he accompanied Wetangula for the IEBC clearance, Kalonzo asked the Raila Odinga led party to leave the seat for Wetangula.
''With all due respect, this is not a matter to even deliberate on. It's all on record on our accord. It is common sense that Wetang'ula is a core principal of NASA, who shelved his presidential ambition for ODM hence ODM must shelve the other seats in his home turf of western, especially here in Bungoma," Kalonzo said.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale also asked other candidates wrestling Wetangula – David Makali (ANC) and Nyongesa to abandon their political ambitions.
''We apologose to our brother Musalia Mudavadi (ANC leader) and ask him to tell Makali to step down in a show of respect for Wetang'ula. When NASA forms the next government he will be considered for the position as Wetang'ula will step down to take his government position," said Khalwale, who is also vying for the Kakamega governor seat, held by ODM deputy party leader, Wycliffe Oparanya.
