A video clip circulated on social media last week showing a male passenger being ejected out of a matatu for supporting re-election of Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua.
The man was being asked to step out of the vehicle by female supporters of Mutua's rival, Wavinya Ndeti, and asked the driver to stop the matatu for him to alight.
The vehicle was likely heading or coming from Machakos county, as the women talked in Kamba language, accusing the man, and Mutua of being traitors.
Interestingly, Wavinya's Wiper party leader and Nasa presidential deputy candidate Kalonzo Musyoka has supported the incident.
According to the Star, Kalonzo said there was nothing wrong with "forcefully sending a man out of a matatu" for supporting Dr Mutua.
"Mimi nimestaajabu ya kuwa akina mama wanafukuza watu kwa matatu... watu wameerevuka siku hizi (I was shocked that women chased people from a matatu. People have become intelligent," Kalonzo said in Nairobi on Wednesday, reports the newspaper.
Mutua was a strong ally of Kalonzo, before decamping Wiper to form Maendeleo Chap Chap Party (MCCP), which he is using to seek re-election.
They are both seeking to become president in 2022.
