The regulations seek to limit the amount of cash expected to be spent in the coming general elections by aspirants vying for various posts.

Addressing mourners on Saturday at Kilungu village in Makueni County, the Wiper party leader explained that the proposed laws will lock out the rich who may have the potential to effectively lead.

He went further to say that it was not right for the commissioners to come up with such regulations given that their new policies came after they had opted to leave office.

"It's disheartening and almost incredible that the commissioners that had accepted to go home can now begin to formulate policies that are against the Kenyan dream," said Kalonzo.

The IEBC commissioners last Thursday came up with policies set to ensure that the campaign funds are regulated.

The regulations pegged the maximum amount to be spent by any presidential candidate at 5.2 billion shillings with that of an MCA placed at 10 million shillings. photo:courtesy/tuko.co.ke
