Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sensationally claimed that he helped President Uhuru Kenyatta to be appointed Deputy Prime Minister during the grand coalition government.
Uhuru had withdrawn his presidential ambitions to support Kibaki’s re-election bid in 2007 before being appointed DPM in 2008.
In his memoirs Against All Odds, Kalonzo explained how he used his Vice Presidency and closeness to Kibaki to mend fences within government.
“When I was at the official visit to Egypt in 2008 Romano Kiome told me that Kibaki had refused to appoint Uhuru as DPM and instead wanted to appoint someone else. At that time, some people were pushing for appointment of Martha Karua,” reports the Daily Nation.
“Pro-Uhuru’s group was arguing that he shelved his ambitions to support Kibaki with family resources also used. I actually managed to convince him and reported the progress to civil service where Uhuru was finally appointed,” he said.
The book which will be launched on Wednesday also highlights how Musyoka helped Njenga Karume and John Michuki revive relationship with President Kibaki.
