Everyone was talking about the possibility of Musalia Mudavadi joining Coalition of Reforms and Democracy (Cord). It now looks like the speculation will be a reality in the coming weeks.
This is good news to ODM'S leader Raila Odinga because majority of western Kenya will back him. However, Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka will be the biggest loser.
Mudavadi will have to be prioritized because of the numbers he can deliver. If Musalia makes this move then Cord will have to reorganize its power sharing agreement.
There is Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula, Hassan Joho and then Musalia will have to be factored in. Even if there will be an agreement on who is the flag bearer, settling on a running mate is an obstacle that might force former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka to make a political U turn.
His main competitor will be Mudavadi who has an upper hand over Musyoka. The former has numbers and has been proven in a presidential race. Many also believe that Mudavadi can be easily accepted countrywide considering his non-radical approach to issues.
He can even be made Cord's flag bearer. Such a scenario will even worsen Kalonzo's situation. He will have to depend on Odinga's good will so that he is granted an opportunity to deputize Mudavadi.
However, Kalonzo has to know that the least Odinga can settle for is a running mate. This is another moment when Musyoka's character will be examined.
