In Machakos, Kalonzo’s hope of dethroning the incumbent Governor Dr Alfred Mutua proved futile after he floored his ally, Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti.

Although Ndeti is yet to concede defeat, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) indicates that Mutua led with more than 30,000 votes margin compared to his competitor.

Ndeti defected from Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) to join Wiper after Mutua parted ways with the former Vice President, accusing him of frustrating his leadership since he took over office following the 2013 general elections.

In Kitui, Wiper candidate Dr. Julius Malombe was also floored by former Lands Minister Charity Ngilu. Ngilu defied the endorsement of Malombe to win the seat. The two leaders have been at loggerheads since they declared interest in the post.In Makueni, Kalonzo’s party secured the governorship post after the incumbent Kivutha Kibwana trounced his opponents. Kibwana became the first governor to retain his seat on Wiper ticket. In Taita Taveta, Granton Samboja made Kalonzo proud after trouncing the incumbent John Mruttu. Mruttu lost during Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations hence opting to be an Independent candidate.
