All seems not to be going on well between NASA coalition principals, few days after they met for a summit at Athi River in Machakos county.
The four principals - Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula, on Monday held a meeting to discuss issues of the coalition, specifically after a surprise meeting between Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday last week.Odinga did not consult his three colleagues prior to the meeting, something that has since raised confusion in the coalition.
During the summit, Mudavadi read a joint press statement, saying "The NASA summit registers its appreciation of the opening of doors for constructive dialogue as initiated by H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta and H.E. Raila Odinga."
For the avoidance of doubt, Mudavadi, Kalonzo and Wetangula said: "let it be known that we encourage constructive/ structured dialogue to address the causes of our national problems. These include: Electoral injustice, insecurity, challenges to devolution, inclusivity, poverty and the attack on the independence of judiciary."
Mudavadi said the leaders agreed that each one of them agreed to go hold a meeting with their respective party members about Raila's meeting with Uhuru, and revert for a clear deliberations and the way forward.
However, Kalonzo has made a U-turn and now wants a meeting between Uhuru and the three of them.
Addressing the press after a consultative meeting with the Ukambani Church Leaders Forum at African Brotherhood Church, Bomani, in Machakos, Kalonzo said it was advisable for him, Mudavadi and Wetangula to also hold a truce meeting with the President and hear what he has in terms of dialogue for the sake of the country.
"It will be prudent if we also have our own meeting with him (Kenyatta), me Wetangula and Mudavadi; so that we hear what he says; we hear if he's ready for dialogue or if he'll run away," Kalonzo said on Wednesday.
He further warned that nobody should call them weaklings, for they would be shocked to find out they were much stronger.
While at the funeral service of the late Mzee Harrison Mulili Ndeti at Mua, Machakos County, on Saturday, the NASA coalition deputy leader said he felt relieved and calm following the surprise Odinga-Uhuru truce meeting on Friday last week.
Kalonzo said his heart felt calm since the meeting showed there was good blood between the two leaders.
