The County’s governor Granton Samboja cautioned his party leader not to step foot in his county without involving him and other county leaders.

The first time county chief was backed by six legislators in his new demand over wrangles over a settlement scheme in the coastal county. Naomi Shaban (Taveta) and Jones Mlolwa (Voi) however said the former Vice President was welcome in the county but with the engagement of local leaders for proper preparation.

Acknowledging that he was aware of a planned visit by Musyoka to the squatters evicted from Sir Ramson land, governor Samboja said: “he (Kalonzo) should know that the county has its own leadership that must fully be involved and respected.”

“If the Wiper Party leader fails to do so, then he is not welcome in the region,” he stated firmly.

About a fortnight ago, a section of Wiper Party leaders was barred from addressing squatters in the region due to alleged security concerns. The leaders included Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, ex-Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama and former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile.

Thousands of squatters were pushed out of the disputed Sir Ramson land, formerly a property of the Kenyatta family. The first family donated 2300 acres of land in 2013 to be distributed to the landless. The affected persons were opposed to the establishment of Ziwani Settlement Scheme.

But after a couple of years, they protested that the land allocation at the scheme was being conducted in a biased manner thus leading to clashes between the squatters and police.
