Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has admitted that he is concerned on the rise of independent candidates in the country and in his Ukambani region backyard.
Speaking on Saturday when he met Wiper nominees from Kitui County, the former Vice President devoted to ensure that the party wins majority seats in the Lower Eastern, in a move aimed at stiffening his political grip on the region.
“If we are not careful, NASA can get all the votes for President and Deputy President, but all other seats end up being taken by independent candidates. It will be very embarrassing and I won’t allow that in Ukambani,” he said.
“NASA requires everybody’s vote, but I would not want to be the Deputy President of Kenya who has no governor, senator, MP or MCA from his home and party,” he added.
The country has recorded the highest number of independent candidates eyeing different elective seats in her history.
Majority of the candidates lost during the just concluded party primaries.
