Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was on Sunday told to keep off Yatta politics, after opposing a multi-billion project launched by Deputy President William Ruto.
Hundreds of residents, led by Muendo Mumo, accused the former vice president of meddling in the development affairs of Yatta yet he was a ‘stranger in the area’.
The local people, who held a peaceful demonstration at Kateki market near Matuu town, accused Musyoka of interfering and opposing the expansion of the Yatta canal, which they said was their lifeline.
They said immediately after Deputy President William Ruto launched the Sh2.1 billion project last week, Kalonzo issued a press statement at a local FM station criticising the move.
“Our point of contention is that we welcomed Mr Kalonzo in Yatta in a big way when he left his Mwingi constituency and came to live with us here in Yatta, but now he has abused our hospitality,” said the residents, in a statement.
The residents also said they were ready to work with the Jubilee Government through their legislator saying all they need is development not party politics which have been outdone in the recent years.
“We are tired of petty politics by the former leaders as they only want to build their political superiority come 2017,” the statement added.
They urged him to apologise to Yatta residents and Machakos County at large.
