Charity Ngilu is a bold woman. Since she joined active politics in 1992 when she contested and won the member of parliament seat for Kitui central, she has been causing political ripples in Ukambani.
The suspended cabinet secretary for land, housing and urban development has said that she will run for the top seat in 2017.
This declaration is a thorn in the flesh for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka who is also eying the seat.
If both of them stand their grounds, then they will divide the Kamba votes, a case that will be so akin to suicide.
Charity Ngilu vied for the presidency in 1997 general elections and came fifth.
In 2013, she lost the senatorial post to David Musila. Charity Ngilu has served in the Kibaki government as a minister of health from 2003-2007.
She also served in the coalition government as a minister of water and irrigation from 2008-2013 before being appointed the cabinet secretary for land, housing and urban development in the Jubilee government.
She is, therefore, a force that Kalonzo will have to reckon with.
