National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has said the oath he is expected to take, as the people’s deputy president, is illegal.Kalonzo, alongside co-principals Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi, skipped the swearing-in of Raila Odinga as the people’s president at Uhuru Park on January 30.
In their defense, the three co-principals said the former prime minister would still take the oath alone even if they attended the event.
On Tuesday, reports emerged that the Wiper Party leader will take the oath on February 28, 2018.The former vice-president was, however, quick to dismiss the reports as false.He said NASA leaders were still consulting on the controversial plan.“I’ve seen the headline in the newspapers that I will be sworn on 28th… That’s news to me, this time we are very careful about the dates we give so that we are clear on which way we are going. In good and due time, we will bring to the notice of our people on the date,” said Kalonzo on Tuesday in Athi River.Kalonzo’s latest remarks contradict his earlier statement that he was ready to be sworn in.Kalonzo stated that from the onset, the NASA leaders knew that the swearing-in ceremony was a violation of the law and had anticipated the arrest of Odinga, a situation yet to happen.“He knew that it (swearing-in) is against the constitution, that is the truth of the matter… We agreed that if we are oathed, which is against the Constitution, we will accept the consequences,” said Kalonzo.
