Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has ordered leaders from Ukambani to begin the registration of potential voters and ensure all youth acquire Identity Cards.
Kalonzo who spoke in Kitui after visiting former Kitui West MP the late Francis Nyenze’s home said Ukambani region will play fulcrum in 2022 politics instructing governors in the region to track the progress of the ID registration exercise.
“Every Kenyan who has attained 18 years must get an ID card. No one should visit your offices without an ID card,” the former vice president said.
“Raila won the election on August 8 but our opponents refused to relinquish power. We must have the numbers in 2022.”
Ukambani region is constituted by the counties of Machakos, Makueni and Kitui. All the three overwhelmingly voted for opposition leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo who was his deputy during the August 8 election.
Kitui County currently has 324,673 registered voters, Machakos County has 445,096 while Makueni boasts of 298,221 voters.
Kalonzo spoke in the company of Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana, Makueni Women Rep Rose Museo, Kitui Senator Enock Wambua, MPs, Jesca Mbalu (Kibwezi East), Mwingi North’s Eng. Nzengu Malili, County Assembly Speakers George Ndotto (Kitui), Douglas Mbilu (Makueni) and former National Assembly Deputy speaker Farah Mahalim.
