Speaking during the Kamba Leader's Convention at Matungulu in Machakos County Monday, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu said the Ukambani region will fully support the former Vice President's presidential bid in forthcoming polls.

She said that area leaders will strive to mobilize voters, promising to ensure that 1 million votes each in the counties of Kitui and Makueni and a further 1.5 in Machakos find their way into Kalonzo's basket.

"We are fully behind Kalonzo's bid and will, as a result, ensure that he gets the maximum votes from his Ukambani bedrock before he can move out in search of national support," Ngilu said.

Kalonzo, on his side, vowed to nationalize his bid as he prepares to battle it out with fellow hopefuls in the contest.

He announced plans to renovate the party into a national formation, also in a bid to achieve the much needed national cohesion.

"Wiper has gone national and we are planning to rename it to One Kenya Movement. I will consult all Kenyans and request for their support ahead of 2022," Kalonzo said.
