Wiper Democratic Movement Kenya party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged leaders of the Orange Democratic Movement to cease friendly fire.
He cited cases where ODM supporters in Mombasa took to streets protesting, calling him a coward after he skipped the controversial swearing-in of NASA coalition and ODM leader Raila Odinga on January 30.
The protesters demanded that Governor Ali Hassan Joho be sworn-in as Odinga's deputy, to replace Kalonzo.During ODM's the National Governing Council Meeting (NGC) in Nairobi on Friday, Kalonzo warned that calling him a coward can split the NASA coalition.
"We're talking serious business here, serious business. The same friendly fire also kills. If you shout at the loudest of your voice that 'Kalonzo is a coward!'... what are you trying to do. You're shooting yourself," he said.
Addressing members at the meeting Kalonzo who is Odinga's deputy in NASA, said nobody should try to create divisions between them.
"Don't try to create divisions. Don't try because if you do that, you're creating internal damage."
During the meeting, the revitalization of the party began with the reconstitution of various leadership positions, with lawyer Edwin Sifuna being appointed the party's Secretary General, replacing Agnes Zani.
"I would like to congratulate the new office holders and thank those leaving office for their dedicated service to the party," said Joho who is also the Deputy Party leader.
The meeting chaired by ODM party leader Raila Odinga, saw members resolve amongst other things, to constitute a task force to review the National Elections Board with a view to strengthening the internal electoral processes.
The task force would report in 90 days.
They also resolved to intensify and deepen the new phase of our struggle, with Joho saying the Jubilee government had reversed all the gains of the country's democracy by media shutdowns, harassment of the Judiciary and civil society.
