NASA co-principal, Kalonzo Musyoka on Tuesday reassured Kitui county boss, Charity Ngilu of his support in the fight against the charcoal ban and sand harvesting in the region.
Addressing journalists during the 5th graduation ceremony at South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU), Kalonzo told Ngilu who is serving her first term in office to stand firm against the ban.
The Ukambani political kingpin said he will not sit back and watch Ngilu being intimidated by other leaders and national government for fighting for her people asserting charcoal burning must stop in the region.
“We must act now to reverse environmental degradation. Today, rivers that have never been affected by seasons are running dry and very soon, unless drastic measures are taken, protection of scarce water resources could turn into hostilities,” Kalonzo said.
On her part, Ngilu said she will not succumb to the pressure of politicians, NCIC, among other groups to change her tune.
Her stand has seen Lorries and cars including a Probox burned for transporting charcoal from this part of the nation.
Leaders from different parts of the nation especially Kiambu have continued to launch attacks after attack against Ngilu following the move.
