Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s quest to ascend to power has received a major boost after Wiper party rebels promised to rejoin the political outfit.
Kalonzo, who has been fighting to retain control of the Ukambani region’s politics, will be a stronger candidate if he manages to calm the political temperatures in Ukambani.
Speaking at a burial ceremony in Makueni County on Sunday, former Mbooni Member of Parliament Kisoi Munyao asked Muthama and other leaders to reorganize their house before they can return to Wiper party.
“We are ready to leave Jubilee and join Wiper, clean Wiper house and we shall join you Muthama,” Kisoi said.
A number of leaders defected from Wiper including the Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, former Kitui Senator David Musila, former Mwingi Central Member of Parliament Joe Mutambu, Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka, Masinga MP Itwiku Mbai and Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka.
Kalonzo has repeatedly said he will contest for the country’s top seat when that time comes.
The Ukambani political kingpin is expected to contest against Deputy President William Ruto.
Both the two leaders are banking on the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to ascend to power.
Mutua's decision to join the presidency race could complicate matters for Kalonzo.
