Senators Johnstone Muthama (Machakos), James Orengo (Siaya) and late Mutula Kilonzo (Makueni) were masterminds of Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed.
In his explosive memoirs titled ‘Against all Odds’, Kalonzo narrates how he was allegedly shortchanged by Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto moments before 2013 elections.
Initially, Kalonzo had been proposed to run for Presidency with Uhuru as his deputy before the situation changed under the defunct G-7 Alliance.
“”I clearly the night I felt betrayed by Uhuru and Ruto. This is the night our alliance died. We had agreed with Ruto that I would be on the presidential ticket, with Uhuru as my running mate or vice versa. Ruto was to be Majority Leader,” writes Kalonzo.
According to him, Muthama and Kilonzo met Orengo, a close ally of Raila Odinga to craft an alliance after the fallout with Uhuru and Ruto.
“Muthama convened a meeting at Karen where we all met. They claimed that my voting block is fewer than that of Ruto. This is the day Muthama and Kilonzo met Orengo and CORD was conceived,” says Kalonzo.
