[Photo/File]The supremacy battle between NASA Co-Principal Kalonzo Musyoka and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua played out Monday when the two differed on whether Thursday’s repeat election should go on as planned or not.
Mutua who is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s point man in Ukambani region is in support of the poll which was called by the IEBC following the nullification of Uhuru’s re-election by the Supreme Court on September 1.
Mutua, however, on Monday sensationally claimed Kalonzo who is opposition leader Raila Odinga’s running mate was in support of the election which NASA is opposed to.
“The silence of NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka is very telling. He is sending a silent message in agreement to the Oct 26th elections,” Mutua said.
Two hours after he posted the remarks on his official Facebook page, however, Kalonzo responded saying NASA’s boycott of the poll still stands.
“As Kenyans we cannot accept an election which will bring division in this Country,” the Wiper Party leader said.
“Kenyans need to breath deep, relax then decide their destiny. Our clarion call, #OctoberNoElection.”
Kalonzo, since NASA’s protests against IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba begun has kept a low profile.
He has made minimal public appearances – most times at press conferences at the NASA secretariat in Lavington and at the Wiper Party headquarters.
The former Vice president has also been out of the country for close to two weeks raising eyebrows over his support for the anti-IEBC protests and postponement of the repeat election.
Last week a section of Jubilee MPs while campaigning in Makueni called on Kalonzo to ditch NASA and join Jubilee. He dismissed the calls.
