Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is set to temporarily defect to ODM party in compliance with election laws, a move that shall allow him legally to be Raila Odinga’s running mate.

In the laws that were passed by parliament recently, all presidential candidates shall appear of ballot papers as candidates of their respective parties.

And having been backed by his party to be candidate, Muysoka will now have to withdraw the papers from Registrar of political parties and subsequently obtain an ODM membership certificate.

“The election laws are very clear and he has to join ODM temporarily to be allowed to deputize Odinga,” said Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

He added: “It doesn’t mean that he will be an ODM member. It will be just a temporary move and I expect it to happen I few weeks’ time.”

However, Mombasa senator Hassan Omar has dismissed the claims and insisted that the laws will not affect his party leader.

“I have gone through the laws and I don’t see a clause where he will be allowed to be an OD member temporarily. That is a pure misrepresentation of facts,” he said.
