A Non-Governmental Organisation, Angaza Empowerment Network has moved to court to file a case filed a case blocking the nomination of Kalonzo Musyoka's son Kennedy Musyoka to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Parliament.

According to Angaza, the move to have Musyoka in the House was a case of nepotism and breached the spirit of the gender rule by the Wiper Party.

The organisation said that ODM, Wiper Party and Ford Kenya had forwarded four names to Parliament, names that included former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s son without consultations.

"Article 38 of the Constitution provides that every citizen as a right to free and fair elections based on free expression of the will of the electors. The list submitted by the 3rd, 4th and 5th Respondents are in breach of Article 38,” the petition reads in part.

The three parties were listed as respondents in the Monday suit.

“The list does not afford the electors (Members of Parliament) with an opportunity to express their free will. Instead, it reduces the electors to be mere rubber stamps as they have no option but to pass the list as presented,” the petitioner argued.

Angaza also argues that the process of selecting the four candidates lacked openness and transparency despite these being the requirement by the constitution.

Aside from Kennedy, the opposition also nominated Ronald Kipng’etich, Abubakar Zein Abubakar and Judith Ramaitha Pareno for the EALA jobs.
