Before the dust settles after naming his son to join East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has sparked controversy in the National Super Alliance (NASA) ahead of the forthcoming general election.
Speaking at Bomas of Kenya, Kalonzo assured his supporters that he will ascend to power in 2022 because President Uhuru Kenyatta will not be there cut short his dream.
The statement has been construed to mean he is not sure about NASA winning the polls.
A section of leaders and supporters argue that the former vice President has sensed defeat.
The Ukambani political kingpin said: “I want you to support me because 2022, we will bring the seat home.” This is not the first time Kalonzo has sparked controversy in the alliance.
Earlier on, Kalonzo had differed with Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama before the public but he insisted that all was well until recently. Muthama’s decision not to defend his seat in the upcoming general polls has dented Kalonzo’s rise to power.
The lawmaker has an uphill task to convince the leaders of Ukambani to back him to rise to power when that comes.
The NASA Deputy President has lost several influential leaders including the likes of Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua and Kitui Senator David Musila, who lost to Governor Julius Malombe.
