The prize was in recognition of work done through the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation.

"I want to dedicate this award to my wife (Pauline) who has worked tirelessly for this foundation (Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation), to the people of Kenya, the suffering people, to Africa my continent and above all to God," said Kalonzo as quoted by the Standard.

Pauline, a senior employee at the Central Bank of Kenya who is said to be ailing from an undisclosed sickness, was last seen in 2015 before she was admitted to a Nairobi hospital.

The condition has forced the former vice president to reduce his public forays.

Kalonzo had traveled to the United Nation’s headquarters in New York last week to receive the African Dignitary Man of the Year award by a global humanitarian organisation, We Care for Humanity.

The Cord co-principal was also recognised for his efforts to bring peace in Sudan during his tenure as Kenya’s Foreign Affairs minister, during which he initiated the process that would culminate in the birth of the continent’s youngest nation, South Sudan.

Other leaders who have won the award are former presidents Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, Muhammad Ershad of Bangladesh and Khil Raj Regmi, a former Prime Minister of Nepal.
