Troubled Machakos senator Johnson Muthama has now broken his tense silence after his Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka accused him of betraying him politically.

Muthama cleared his name claiming that his party leader’s attacks on him were not to be taken in their literal meaning but were instead directed at the entire steering committee of Cord where he co-sits alongside Siaya senator James Orengo

“He did not say that I betrayed him and you should not report that. What he said was that Muthama and Orengo who are co-chairs of the Cord Steering committee should take responsibility if we fail to clinch the presidency,” Muthama said as quoted by the Sunday Nation.

His comments were further echoed by Orengo who shed more light explaining that it was not in the habit of the Wiper Party leader to make reckless political attacks.

“I don’t think he said that and if at all he did, it must have been with a tongue-in-cheek,” Orengo said.

This comes after a visibly angry Musyoka on Saturday told a crowd at the Coast that Muthama was colluding with Orengo with an aim of denying him the Cord ticket.

“The punishment you will get from these people will be worse than what you got when your trousers were torn in Parliament,” Musyoka said in the presence of Muthama.

Muthama later excused himself from the caravan and headed back to Nairobi in what was interpreted as silent protest.
