On Thursday, Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro directed Legal and ICT committees to gather views from various stakeholders on the controversial amendments before tabling the report for discussion on 4th January.

The latest development means opposition supporters will not go to streets to challenge the amendments as communicated earlier.

“Today, I met my brothers James Orengo and Moses Wetangula where we consulted and announced to suspend demos scheduled 4th January to await the outcome from the Senate over the laws,” he said on his official Facebook page.

“We plan to have a meeting on January 5th 2017 to discuss the outcome and announce our next course of action,” he added.
