Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka must be on the ballot come 2022 polls, the Wiper Democratic Movement of Kenya (WDM-K) has said.
The party's secretary-general says Kalonzo, who was running mate to NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the August 8 polls, will go for the top seat having shelved his ambitions in the last two elections.
"Kalonzo eyes are fully focussed on the 2022 General Election following his support for Raila Odinga in 2013 and 2017 presidential elections," Wiper said in a statement seen by Daily Nation on Monday.
At the same time, Mathuki dismissed reports that Kalonzo, a NASA co-principal, was angling to replace the late Francis Nyenze as MP for Kitui West.
"Kalonzo does not come from Kitui West, therefore this is a misplaced impression," he added.
His remarks come amid reports that Wiper was toying with the idea of charting its own path now that the presidency looks elusive after NASA failed to dethrone Jubilee.
Opposition affiliate parties; ODM, Wiper, ANC and Ford-Kenya came together on the basis of power-sharing.
While admitting there was anxiety and frustrations in NASA, Wiper Vice Chairperson Mutula Kilonzo Junior expressed confidence that the alliance principals would reinvent themselves and find a reason to stay together.
"Our principals will be seeking to arrest the growing disquiet which has dogged NASA in the last few weeks," said Mutula, who is also the Makueni senator.
