Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM-K) leader Kalonzo Musyoka will not automatically be the National Super Alliance's flagbearer in 2022 general elections, Lugari MP Ayub Savula has said.

On Monday, NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga said the Opposition alliance will back Kalonzo in the 2022 race to the State House.

“Kalonzo will be on the ballot in 2022. We are sure we will form the government and Kalonzo will be the Deputy President. He stands a chance in NASA and we will support him,” said Raila as quoted by the Standard.

But Savula dismissed the endorsement saying the agreement deposited with the Registrar of Political Parties by NASA is clear that all the five partner parties will compete to pick a flagbearer for 2022.

The MP said Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi, by the virtue of being the founder of NASA, should be picked to take over from Raila.

“Musalia Mudavadi is the kingmaker in this NASA thing. It’s Mudavadi who founded and surrendered the NASA name for use by the coalition,” he told the Star on Thursday.

Savula said Raila should not endorse his successor because it will bring bad blood between the co-principals, saying the ODM leader will be required to back the agreed candidate.
