Since Cord leader Raila Odinga missed Bungoma senator Moses Wetang'ula's presidential bid launch in Kakamega, the opposition party has been experiencing wrangles on who should be the party's flag bearer.
Moses Wetang'ula has been urging the two co-principals to endorse him. He missing Cord's rally in Kibera on Saturday was disappointing but what came as a bigger surprise to supporters of Cord was Kalonzo's absence.
The Wiper leader is in Portugal and therefore, did not attend the rally. This could divide the opposition party further.
It came at a time when some members supporting Kalonzo's presidential bid had asserted that they would not accept anything short of Kalonzo Musyoka being declared flagbearer.
It also came at a time when some Kamba Members of parliament from Kitui held a meeting with president Uhuru Kenyatta at Statehouse.
While Kalonzo may not have ulterior motives, supporters of Cord did not take his absence lightly.
If the three Cord co-principals do not remain united, then the party might just remain in opposition.
