Mutula Junior says that the government is infringing on the constitutional rights of the self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader.

Speaking to journalists at the Supreme Court in Nairobi when he attended the admission of 2022 law students as advocates on Tuesday, the Makueni senator asked the government to unconditionally allow Miguna into the country.

He said that the vocal lawyer has been humiliated enough and that he does not deserve to continue suffering in the hands of the government.

“The government must stop harassing a man whose only mistake is to demand for his constitutional rights,” he said as quoted by a local daily.

The senator warned that the country is slipping to dangerous path should the government continues violating on the rights of citizens.

He said that Miguna’s return was pegged pure on High Court orders and that the government has not obligation but to comply with the orders.

Miguna returned into the country on Monday but has been denied entry.

The  self-declared NRM leader vehemently fought attempts by Immigration officials to deport him to Dubai. The angry lawyer fought back disembarking from the plane.

Efforts by ODM leader Raila Odinga to secure his entry failed as Immigration officials maintain that he cannot be allowed into the country because he is undocumented passenger.

The government says that Miguna has to apply for citizenship afresh for him to be allowed in.

Miguna has, however, received a reprieve after High court sitting in Nairobi ordered for his immediate release.

High Court Judge Roselyn Aburili said that Miguna was illegally detained and should be released and allowed into the country unconditionally.
