Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi has declared his interest in the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2022 polls.
Mulyungi said he is fit to represent Kitui residents as their governor since the incumbent, Charity Ngilu, is 'sleeping'on the job.
He accused Ngilu of allegedly sidelining other areas in terms of development.
Mulyungi said Kitui County needs a serious leader who will fight for all residents without discrimination.
“Governor Ngilu should start preparing for a tough battle come 2022 because Kitui people are tired of her alleged discriminative leadership,” Mulyungi said.
He addressed the press in Mwingi town on Tuesday.
The vocal MP while reacting to the incident where five people drowned and died in River Enziu three weeks ago, lashed out at the governor’s slow response to the disaster.
Mulyungi said Ngilu’s government did little to save lives of the five people who died in the incident.
On Tuesday, four bodies and a wreckage of the probox vehicle the five were traveling was recovered from the River in a joint operation by the Kenya Red Cross and national government.
Reacting to the MP’s claims when she distributed sanitary pads to girls at Mwingi Central Primary School on Tuesday, Ngilu said she will not be dragged into succession politics.
Ngilu said she was focused on serving the Kitui residents hence politicians should keep their 'petty' issues to themselves.
The two politicians do not see eye two eye since the MP warned the governor against setting her foot in his constituency without his knowledge.
