Wambua says that Matiang’i and Boinnet are not above the law, adding that their disobedience of court orders must be punished.

He said that the two government officials deserve jail term for continuously snubbing court orders.

“It is shameful that senior government officials can openly ignore and snub court orders,” he told journalists at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Thursday.

Wambua said that unless Kenyans stand for change and rule of law the country could be turned into a police state.

While condemning the brutalization of self-declared NRM leader Miguna Miguna, Wambua asked the government to respect human rights and rule of law.

The Wiper senator said that Miguna did not deserve to go through the hell the government put him through since his arrival on Monday and after deportation on Wednesday night.

Wambua said that while Miguna broke the law by failing to produce his travel documents upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday, the government had no right to detain and subject him to inhuman treatment.

Miguna has deported again on Wednesday night to Dubai two days after jetting into the country from Canada where he had earlier been deported.

His deportation has elicited condemnation in the country and across borders.

On Thursday, High court Judge George Odunga fined Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Inspector General of Police  (IG) Joseph Boinnet and Immigration Principal Secretary (PS) Gordon Kihalangwa Sh200, 000 each as fine for court contempt.

Justice Odunga had earlier convicted the three government officials for ignoring court orders to have Miguna released unconditionally.

Odunga in his ruling said that the fines will be deducted from the three government officer’s next month salaries.
