Former Lamu Women Representative Shakila Abdalla has hit out at Deputy President William Ruto accusing him of lying to international media.Shakila said DP Ruto’s claim that NASA sponsored militia to prevent voting during Thursday’s repeat poll was a lie meant to tarnish the image of the opposition leaders.Speaking to journalists in Lamu Town on Sunday, the Wiper deputy party leader said DP Ruto’s motive was to castigate the opposition and make it look bad internationally. She said NASA did not engage any militia as the Deputy President claimed, adding that the police are the ones who have been attacking innocent citizens. The former Women Rep accused DP Ruto of trying to shift blame from the police to the opposition over police brutality witnessed in NASA strongholds.Shakila said NASA stands for peace and electoral justice and has no links to any militia group.“It was malicious for the Deputy President to claim on international media that NASA organised militia groups to prevent voting on October 26,” said Shakila. The Wiper politician said the opposition will remain strong and stand against injustices which she claimed are being perpetuated by the police.Shakila also said NASA will push for prosecution of police officers involved in the brutality meted out to NASA supporters before, during and after the October 26 repeat poll.In an interview with CNN and Aljazeera, DP Ruto claimed that opposition leader Raila Odinga sponsored militia to prevent voters in his strongholds from voting on October 26.The DP claimed that NASA's sponsored militia blocked electoral officials from accessing polling centers making it hard for voting to take place.
