The resignation of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner Roselyn Akombe came at the right time, former Lamu Women Rep Shakila Abdalla has said.Shakila said Akombe’s resignation is a clear indication that the repeat presidential election will not be conducted in a free and fair manner unless the opposition’s demands are met.Speaking in Lamu, Shakila, who is the Wiper deputy party leader, lauded Akombe for making what she termed as a bold move. The vocal politician said the electoral commission needs to be disbanded with immediate effect in order to pave way for reforms.Shakila challenged IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba to follow Akombe’s example in order to ensure free, fair and credible polls. Shakila also called upon all the other IEBC commissioners to resign from their posts to allow for the formation of a team that will deliver credible polls. The former legislator maintained that NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga will not take part in next week’s polls if the electoral reforms being pushed by the opposition will not be taken into consideration.
