The Interior Ministry has downplayed claims that Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s ID was used to register a different voter in Wajir.

According to its spokesperson Mwenda Njoka, Musyoka’s allegations are baseless.

Njoka said on Thursday that the National Registration Bureau does not have any other person using Kalonzo number in any part of the nation.

"We wish to make it unequivocally clear that the bureau has absolutely nothing to do with the registration of voters and only registers and issues Kenyans with IDs," he said, as quoted by the Star.

He also noted that Kalonzo and one Salome Wanjiru Njoroge have different details.

“We also wish to point out that Salome Wanjiru Njoroge's ID number is different from that of the former VP and that he is registered under a different ID, with records showing he was born in Gatundu North on April 10, 1993.

His ID was issued in December 2012." Njoka further affirmed that records from the department clearly show that the former Vice President’s ID was issued on January 31, 1996, in replacement of a lost one.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission( IEBC) reminded the opposition and other leaders that there are various Kenyans who share IDs on its official Twitter account "As we establish how this mix up occurred, please note there are several cases of shared IDs in the register of voters’ database," the commission posted.
