Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka now wants to be named the National Super Alliance's (NASA) flag bearer.
Kalonzo asked his co-principals Raila Odinga (ODM), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) to choose him to face President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August polls.
“My brother Raila made it very clear that anyone can be president. And you know that if you put Kalonzo there, Jubilee will go home, why waste time?” Kalonzo posed.
The former Vice President said the time is right for him to take the top seat, insisting he is the strongest candidate within the alliance to dethrone Jubilee regime.
“Now, at my age of 63 years, why would I delay that decision (to be President) any further? Am sure I'll send Jubilee home early morning,” said the NASA co-principal.
He was addressing Wiper aspirants and party officials at Bomas of Kenya on Monday.
Kalonzo, Raila's running mate in 2013 general elections, said he will not take a back seat when negotiating with his co-principals in the coalition.
“I have learnt from my mistakes in the past and the problem is, I have always been too trusting,” said Kalonzo.
The Wiper leader added: “People say that am very diplomatic, cordial and polite...this time I would rather be 'mshenzi' and be the President.”
On Sunday, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi said the coalition is inches closer to naming its torch bearer, saying the process will be done through consensus.
